Personal Computer Era
The 1970s could be called the era of the minicomputer. There were progressively smaller and cheaper machines than the standard mainframe of that era. Hardware technology was making great strides forward, and the microcomputer, which contained the entire machine processor on a single 1 to 2 inch square piece of plastic and silicon, was becoming faster and cheaper each year.
Since that time, the machines have gotten cheaper and faster. They are more powerful than the mainframe computers.
