Effect of Arrival Time of Process on Scheduling

Q4. Does arrival time of processes effect scheduling, if yes, than explain with example.

Ans. When the processes do not come at the same time, that is, the arrival time of each process is different than arrival time plays an important role in the scheduling.

Let’s take four processes that arrive one after another in this order:

P1 P3 P2 P4

0                                  7                 8                           12                                     16

P1’s waiting time=0

P2’s waiting time=6

P3’s waiting time=3

P4’s waiting time=7

Average Waiting Time

=(0+6+3+7)/4

=16/4

=4 milliseconds

Turnaround Time

Turnaround Time = Burst Time + Waiting Time

Process                    Turnaround Time

P1                              7+0=7

P2                              4+6=10

P3                              1+3=4

P4                              4+7=11

Average Turnaround Time

=(7+10+4+11)/4

=32/4

=8 milliseconds
